Oak Park a suburb of Chicago: Restoration of a Bungalow

PROBLEM

US-CES was awarded the project to restore the deteriorated wooden facias and soffits.  Years of weathering had rotted the wood and the paint was flaking off.

This Oak Park octagonal bungalow was built in the 1920s adjacent to Chicago. The window shapes are semicircular with stained leaded glass.  The exterior walls are yellowish brick masonry, decorative limestone details, and the roof has greenish color clay tiles.

SOLUTION

  • Surveyed the current condition.

  • Developed a scope of work.

  • Dismantled the damaged wooden facias and soffits.

  • Discovered the interior wooden supporting members inside the soffits were severally damaged.

  • Redesigned supporting members to match the original.

  • Matched the new materials in color and design.

VALUE

US-BES was hired first to survey the current deteriorated conditions and provide the owner with a report of findings and repair recommendations.

US-CES was hired at a later date to implement the restoration of facias and soffits.  With the knowledge gained from the US-BES investigations, US-CES was well equipped to perform the construction restoration.   The project deadline was met and work was completed successfully.
